Academy For Fundraising Training

Among the services of the Center for Responsible Funding (CRF) is the Academy For Fundraising Training. The Academy encompasses three programs: Securing Assets for Grassroots Empowerment (SAGE), Building for Permanence and Money for the Movement. Each of these programs have been expanded in an effort to meet the growing needs of social justice organizations in finding adequate funding resources. SAGE teaches day to day skills, Building for Permanence addresses long term viability and Money for the Movement expands the reach of the Academy by providing a pool of trainers of color to work with their constituencies in the nonprofit sector.

The Academy also offers specialized training to social justice groups which have particular fundraising needs. A trainer will meet with each organization requesting assistance, evaluate their needs, and thereby create a training program suited to their exact needs as requested. These programs could range in scope from a two to four hour board orientation/staff training to a series of consultations. The Academy will also provide referrals for consultation on matters outside of the scope of fundraising as necessary to nonprofit organizations.

Program Descriptions

  • Securing Assets for Grassroots Empowerment (SAGE) is an eighteen month program funded by The Philadelphia Foundation. Its goal is to improve the capabilities of social justice organizations to mount effective annual donor campaigns. Combining intensive seminar training with one-on-one consultation, CRF staff works with organizations to plan, develop and manage major individual donor campaigns. The next application period for SAGE will begin in Spring, 2003
  • Partnering for Permanence is a program that assists organizations in building their endowments and is only open to organizations with endowments managed by The Philadelphia Foundation. Contact Heather Gee at The Philadelphia Foundation, (215) 563-6417 for information on creating an endowment.
  • Money for the Movement is a program to train primarily people of color how to become fundraising trainers. This program is in progress, ongoing and by invitation only. Contact CRF for a list of trainers.
  • Specialized Training upon request for groups which have specific needs.
